Balayage or foils: how to choose your lightening

A calm treatment room with candles, plants and a deep soaking tub

Foils put lightener into fine, measured sections, which gives a bright, even result and very clean coverage at the part. Balayage is painted by hand onto the surface of the hair, so the brightness sits where the light naturally hits and grows out softly.

Neither is better. The right answer depends on how bright you want to go and how long you want between appointments.

If you would rather visit every twelve weeks than every six, balayage is usually your answer.

  • Foils: brighter and more even, regrowth shows sooner
  • Balayage: softer, with a gentle grow-out
  • Foils: better at blending gray around the part
  • Balayage: longer gaps between visits
  • Both can be combined in a single appointment
  • Every plan starts with a consultation

Bring three photos of hair you love, and one you do not. The one you dislike often tells us more. See cut & color for what the appointment includes.
