A blowout loses shape when moisture in the air swells the hair shaft. The fix is to leave as little room for that moisture as possible: a smooth cuticle, fully dry roots and a final blast of cool air to lock everything in.
It sounds fussy. In practice it takes five extra minutes and doubles how long the shape lasts.
Most frizz starts at the roots, so dry them first and dry them completely.
- Use a smoothing leave-in on damp hair
- Rough-dry to eighty percent before using a brush
- Dry the roots first, lengths last
- Use the nozzle, pointed down the hair shaft
- Finish each section with a cool shot
- Mist a light finishing spray, not a heavy one
On a truly wet day, a loose braid on the bus and five minutes of shaking it out at your desk works wonders. See blowouts & styling for what the appointment includes.
